Guantanamo

So, Bush and his crew are fighting desperately, and losing, to keep the Guantanamo Bay prison open. Hello? The United States is holding people captured in other countries without trial and without charges, one guy I read about for as long as six years? And they defend it? I'm afraid this is what happens when the president is a guy who never knew or appreciated history. The Constitution? Do these jokers even know what's in it? These are the people who think that the Constitution gives the president control over the armed forces. Congress has control over the armed forces; the president's role is merely as "Commander in Chief," a title left undefined.

So, GW and the gang are still complaining about having to tell the truth to Congress about the firings of the U.S. Attorneys. What a bunch of crap! To me, it's not even clear that the president should be able to keep anything he does secret from us, the people who are paying his salary, the salaries of his people and his luxurious living arrangement. But we now have an 'executive privilege' tradition, even though that term is not mentioned in the Constitution. The Constitution -- has everybody forgotten about it?

Today (Sunday, June 10) I read a news story about GW getting a hero's welcome in Albania, and him speaking about freedom and democracy to an adoring crowd. Huh? This is the guy who pushed for the USA Patriot Act and Guantanamo Bay? Is it me?

Welcome to the world of NatetheGrate

Is it me, or are things crazy out there and getting crazier? When I read the newspaper or listen to the radio or watch television, I think more and more that Washington, D.C., is like a giant comedy club with George W. Bush as the Master of Ceremonies. He opens every show with a monologue.
